As crossdressers some of us have expressed fear/anxiety at the thought of going public with our dressing. Some do not, like Yoya Fabulosa who seems very comfortable with going en femme in public. Me? I was terrified at first, even of going to my first Masquerade Club meeting in drab. Yes even looking like a normal guy I was terrified of going to meet the other girls who were all dressed to the nines. Time and experience heals all that.
Now that I go out occasionally solo en femme I find it to be a rush for sure and I've had no trouble or ridicule. So as a society we are progressing I think. It wasn't always this way. I presented a bunch of pics I took off the web which showed cross dressers from way back (at least*****years) and some recent. Crossdressing has been around for a long time. Societies dealt with it in various ways the most ridiculous of which was arresting men for dressing as women and throwing them in the klink or slammer. You can find pics of guys dolled up looking very glamorous indeed with mink stoles even, being escorted by NYC policemen (and other places too) to the paddy wagon. I looked for similar pics in my own Demented Dominion but failed to find any, although I'm sure it happened here too. Very unlikely to happen anymore. Who do we have to thank for that?
Enter the Stonewall Riots in the late 1960s in New York. Police tried to arrest gays and crossdressers and they shouldn't have been surprised when a full on riot developed. I don't think anyone was killed unlike in the Winnipeg General Strike but it succeeded in taking the heat off gays and crossdressers. Yea!!!! Now we are much more likely to garner the respect we deserve from officers we have contact with. We need to be thankful for those that went before us, waved the flag and brought some sanity to this issue. I'm not saying everything is great, just that it is a lot better than things were. There is still violence against gays and crossdressers but it is likely to be perpetrated in a one on one situation like the CD who was murdered here while street hooking. Stay far away from that activity. These days your biggest critic is likely to be your wife! Sit her down and explain the facts to her. Cheers for now.
