CRUSHES AND ATTRACTION

The term crush came up in the comments of my last blog and i noted that it is a word that has stood the test of time.I think i first heard it watching the original brady bunch(,and like most teenagers at the time i did indeed have a crush on Marsha Brady).SO i thought of crush  as a bohemian word that had been given a romantic twist sometime in  the 1960s ,and was surprised to learn that in fact has been used in a romantic context since*******Well hats off to you "crush"because you have never been usurped,a better,cooler or more perfect  word for what occurs has not been invented,and boy do i love what you bring. Crushes are the  fun and lighthearted cousins of love,sometimes fleeting and sometimes ongoing for decades.The subjects you are crushing on are usually unobtainable for one reason or another ,for example the icelandic prime minister  (Katrin Jakobsdottir)and the new zealand prime minister( Jacinda Adern) ,are i suspect not aware of my existence and taken,but crush on them i do.                                                                                                                                                                              Crushes take you outside of your usual dating types and beliefs on what you find attractive and sometimes even manifest themselves in private episodes involving your fantasies.I know of myself that i am attracted to girls with hairy armpits(hats off to the bohemians),big noses(think former german tennis player steffi graf yum) ,overbites(hmmm even freddie Mercury might do here)those wearing glasses or velvet or having dreadlocks.But my crush butterflies could  land on anyone.For instance Marisa Tomei in my cousin vinnie or the risotto girl in the seinfeld episode(those new york italian girls are just delicious,the plainest of politicians who speak well.the lady who throws in extra when i get fish and chips,any girl with her own market stall, the lady with the stop sign at the local ****** crossing or any number of quirky others either  crossing my path in life  ,on the radio,tv  or in person. I have also noticed my mini crushes on some of you gurls who visit and friend me  ,and in some instances it is the profile pic alone ,before i even get to the album. Anyways i look forward to some musings on this topic from some of you,cheers Melanie  xxx
