Why Do We Crossdress?

Why do we crossdress? A question that many seem very interested in. It is not just a few fellows who like to slip on a sparkly miniskirt once in-a-while. There are lots of us who crossdress. Thousands. Many thousands. From Iceland to Iran to London to Turkey to Miami to Moose Jaw and Swift Current. And back again. I have chatted with many of them. And the spectrum spans a huge variety from "girls" who simply like the comfort and feel of womens' satin panties (Yes) and pantyhose (Oh Yes) and the warm, luscious feel of mammary glands on their chest to those who look better and sexier than most cis-women do. I have seen it with my own eyes. That's quite a range.

I had a discussion with a (cis-woman) well known national journalist recently (via email) who pooh-poohed my thoughts on why we crossdress and specifically why I love crossdressing. In the end we just agreed to disagree. The discussion went like this. I suggested that those of us who crossdress adore cis-women and their physical attributes and we want some of that attraction/adoration for ourselves. To look pretty (or beautiful in some cases) and sexy and desired by the opposite (er, same?) sex is what we want (catcalls and all)! We have discussed this and agreed upon it at our local crossdressers club meetings. She was having none of it. Not at all.

She said "I don't believe for one minute that crossdressers love women and just want to look good." If I read between the lines here I can only conclude that she thinks crossdressers have a nefarious purpose in mind when they put all that girly stuff on. So what could that be? Dressing up to gain access to the ladies washroom to look under stall doors? Dressing up to get close to cis-women to exact some criminal activity out in a lonely parking lot at night? Does that make sense in anybody's eyes? Not in mine.

So we agreed to disagree.
I would admit that some portion of MtF crossdressers are bisexual and would or do enjoy sex with a man while en femme but probably not a majority. And all the rest? They are likely married and love their wives and their children and their pets too. And they probably also vote in elections. They may have come out of the closet to their wives and/or children but many have not. And I suspect that crossdressers, like licensed firearms owners, are some of the safest people in the country to be around.

Ok, I'm pretty secure in my belief as to why crossdressers do it. They also enjoy it because it allows them to bring some of the colours we all enjoy into their lives. We can be creative. Is there anything more drab than the usual guy's uniform of jeans and a bland top. I have bought lots of spandex material that allows me to go from mild to wild. Then I get my tailor to sew up a new creation like a nice colourful miniskirt. Why should cis-women have a monopoly on wearing nice skirts and pantyhose or lovely long shoulder or breast length hair? Or eyeliner and mascara?

A perfect segue into the following issue.

Sadly it comes as no surprise to anyone that standards are in rapid descent in Western society. Behavioural standards have got to be at an all time low these days. To say nothing of the discourtesy shown by a lot of drivers now. But you know what else is? Take a look around at the cis-women out there in public. Hey I'm all for women doing jobs like law enforcement, firefighting, paramedics, pilots, doctors, welders and carpenters etc. Just look at the way most women dress these days when not in uniform (if they work in one).

Yes there are some exceptions but generally women dress from bland right down to shabby these days. My dear mother took great pains to look good as a woman when I was a kid and she was in her prime. But that was the 1950s and 60s. Now many women look terrible in public. That is on top of the fact that many have just let themselves go physically. Far too many visits to McDs. Don't ask me to relate examples because there are way too many. So have a lot of men too, I know but we are talking cis-women here. So there is nothing wrong with a few crossdressing guys trying to add a little colour and spice into the public eye. Is there. Is there?

Nothing I have written above negates my love for cis-women. I just object to the declining standards in behaviour and appearance. As well there is the issue of many young men having no interest in young women these days. Is that the men's fault? I think it is the society's fault and somebody better fix it before we are past the point of no return which is rapidly approaching.
