One Lake Erie Gala moment I’ll never forget occurred the second year I attended. One year the weather was great in Erie. In mid-November we had clear skies, the sun was out and temps were in the 40s. We were running ahead of schedule before our next stop at a thrift store. All these places knew we were coming. But with an hour to kill, Lisa, the gala chairwoman, decided we would stop at a rural diner on the outskirts of town. They did NOT know a bus load of 15 to 20 cross-dressers were about to drop in for coffee. I was apprehensive about going in, but saw how Lisa and some of the other girls, with no fear at all, barged right in without blinking an eyelash. Seeing how those girls accepted who they were and were not afraid to show the world, well, that made me think: Why can’t I exhibit that same type of courage? I went in with another girl and lived to tell the tale. A few jaws dropped, but we weren’t harassed or anything, and I would bet good money the diner staff still talks about our visit to this day. Go to a CD/TG event! Make a memory.
